MRI of the Pituitary(Sella)

Pituitary gland, also called Sella, according to one Merks' manual, " is a pea-sized gland that is housed within a bony structure (sella turcica) at the base of the brain. The sella turcica protects the pituitary but allows very little room for expansion" .      Imaging of the pituitary is a good way of diagnosing tumors or any other abnormalities in the region.  It almost always involves the use of a contrast agent.  Most of the images are acquired in the coronal and sagittal plane and some in the axial plane.
Some of the reasons for MRI of the Pituitary: Pituitary Adenoma.
